Fun with Funnels

Visitors to our kennels may notice a whole lot of funnels on our cages. We love funnels for a couple of reasons:

1. They allow people to give our dogs treats without any chance of having a finger bit. 
2. They create a barrier between you and the animal which reduces the chance of someone unknowingly passing an infection to an animal. As you know, illness and recovery time can greatly lengthen an animal's time at the shelter.

Funnels are also the newest part of our Kennel Zen program, which gives us the chance to reward our dogs for displaying good, adoptable behavior.  It's easy and fun:

1. Look for the colored baskets in our kennels with doggie treats inside.
2. Practice Kennel Zen by dropping a treat into the funnel if the dog is sitting quietly with all 4 paws on the floor.

This is not just about letting the dogs enjoy a snack. We want them be more comfortable around strangers. Did you know that when dogs in a kennel are nervous, they can exhibit stressful behavior like jumping, barking, or rushing to the front of their cages?

 

The more relaxed our dogs are with new faces, the more they’ll learn and demonstrate good adoptable behavior. So help us funnel these wonderful dogs to a new home!

We Salute Our Patriots

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is proud to be part of the Pets for Patriots program. It allows current and former members of our armed forces the chance to adopt an animal for a reduced amount.

To get started in this process, apply online at PetsForPatriots.org. You'll be asked to provide a copy of your military ID or DD214.

You can then come to our shelter, find your new best friend (2 years or older), and present us with your Pets for Patriots member confirmation letter.

We then send your adoption information to Pets for Patriots and they in turn send you a gift card for more than $100 for PetSmart or PETCO.

Please help us spread the word about this program that helps our animals and those who have served our country.

Hooray for Hollywoof!

Imagine a picture perfect evening spent outside, with your favorite dog, and a movie you’ll both enjoy. 

That’s what you'll experience at Mutts at the Movies. This series of movie nights are part of the City of West Palm Beach’s outdoor movie series, Screen on the Green. 

Come join us for this free event at the Waterfront Great Lawn, which is at 101 S. Flagler Drive. We have two dates lined up:

• Friday, May 10, Hotel for Dogs
• Friday, August 9 Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Both events will run from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. 

You’ll also have a chance to meet some of our adoptable animals and visit our pop-up “concession stand.” Dog treats and gift items will be available, all sales will benefit the animals at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.  

Beach or lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged at this outdoor event. All pets must be on leashes. Doggy waste stations will also be available to keep the area clean.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is proud to partner with The City of West Palm Beach on this fun evening under the stars.

A Happy Reunion

John, Jodie, Denali, and Ike

Ike and Denali came to our shelter as a pair. Eventually, the Siberian Huskies found new homes. Unfortunately, they couldn’t be adopted together.

 

Still, John, who adopted Ike, wanted to stay in touch with the family that adopted Denali. Recently he was contacted by them with an opportunity.

Denali’s owners had fallen on challenging times and wondered if John would be willing to adopt the dog from them. 

John and his wife, Jodie, decided they couldn’t pass up this opportunity. A dog meetup was soon scheduled. Would Ike and Denali remember one another?

Within seconds, John and Jodie knew the made the right choice. 

Lorie said, “There was not a dry eye in the house,” at the explosion of joy they witnessed when they the two 7 year olds once again had the chance to play with one another.
