Show Us You're a Star

It was a tough challenge: To describe the Barry Crown Walk for the Animals in roughly 30 seconds. We had to do it for a radio promotion.

After all, Walk for the Animals is more than just a one mile walk. There are pet contests, music, food, entertainment, vaccinations, special vendors, animal CPR demonstrations, a celebrity pet wash, and adoptable animals.

It's an action packed half day event that's taking place on March 9th at Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens. The walk is not just a great way to spend your Saturday but also our second largest fundraiser of the year. So it plays a huge role in helping us care for our animals.

Suddenly, 30 seconds doesn't seem very long! Here's what we came up with:

Now we want you to give it a shot. Grab your smart phone, your tablet, your webcam, or your video camera and record a 30 second clip about Walk for the Animals.

Get creative, have fun, and help us spread the word about this import event. Send your project or a link to it to k.okel@hspb.org

And don't forget to register yourself and/or your team (come up with a fun name for your group) at WalkWithPeggy.org

Housebreaking How To

Housebreaking is a question that comes up frequently in our world so we through we'd ask Kristi Jackson, our Senior/Lead Trainer at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League for some advice.

I can hear you groaning now!  There is no shortcut; you have to do the work to make sure your puppy is housebroken.  The key is to always make sure she is within eye sight.  Puppies don’t have control of all their muscles so we have to help them be successful.

I take a puppy out every 30 minutes.  I also take her out after every meal, after a nap and after playing with her new found friends.  Puppies should also be confined when you can’t watch them so they do not believe your lovely Persian rug is their bathroom.  I use a crate large enough for her to stand up, turn around and lay out flat.

So…watch your puppy, take her out often and have a party if she potties outside.  If you happen to miss a chance to take her out, startle her if you catch her in the act and take her outside to finish but if you don’t catch her, take a rolled up newspaper and hit yourself on the head for not paying attention.

There are SO MANY different things you can teach your smart little puppy!  Come join us for classes and see what else you and your puppy can learn!

We Think This Is Exciting

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue Leauge, Walk with Peggy, Adopt a dog Palm Beach County, Adopt a Cat
We usually don't talk much about our office furniture but this is a special case.

The picture to the right shows our new Greeter station. It's just arrived and you'll soon see it in the lobby of the Grace Pavilion.

As you know, our Greeter (a volunteer position) is the first person you see when you enter our facility. He or she can talk to you about our services, point you to our adoption areas, as well as serve as a "Smile Ambassador" for our organization.

Our Greeters are good at multitasking and sometimes they'll help our administrative team with things like putting together our event invitations.

We would not be the organization that we are without the help of our greeters. So perhaps you can understand why a new chair and podium gets us so excited.

While all of our animals are beautiful, sometimes they need a little help. Watch the video below to find out how.

Are You the Leader of the Pack?

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Walk for the Animals, adopt a dog palm beach county
Maybe you are the "Big Dog" in your group of friends or family. You're the one who organizes everyone. You take pride in making sure they all have fun.

We're looking for people to organize packs (also known as teams) for this year's Barry Crown Walk For the Animals. It's the March 9th event that puts the "fun" in fundraiser.

We not only want you to create a team (of at least five people) but we also want you to have fun while doing it. Come up with a catchy name for your group, dress up in memorable costumes, and unleash your creativity. Why not get started right now?

You'll have a great time at this half day event and go home knowing that you've made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many animals who only want a new home.

Maybe in your group of friends, you're more of a small pup. Feel free to forward this message to the leader of your pack. Together we'll make this our best Walk for the Animals ever.
