As you know our Walk for the Animals is one of our most important fundraisers at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. The money raised will mean so much to the dog, cat, puppy, or kitten who needs a second chance. Last year, your support helped us find new homes for 3,263 animals.

We need your help to make sure this event is a success. Another strong year of individual and team fundraising will allow us to do even more for our animals. They are counting on us.

Thanks to the generosity of Target, we are able to offer you a special incentive. If you have raised $50 for the Walk by March 1st, we will enter you in a drawing for a $100 Target gift card.

Even if your name is not drawn, you'll already be a winner as you'll be entitled to a Walk for the Animals T-shirt and bandana.

But wait, there's more: Our Walk T-Shirt is not only the perfect fashion choice but also a way to take advantage of special sales being held at local stores and restaurants.

Starting this process is easy. Simply visit our WalkWithPeggy website to register and start fundraising (From there we'll be able to see who has raised more than $50).

And don't forget that our top fundraiser will receive a one week stay at the Grand Luxxe Residence Club in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. This 3000 sq ft private villa includes 2 bedrooms with private balconies and a mini suite with another balcony. Included is a 16 round of golf plus beautiful and meticulous 5 star amenities. This trip typically would cost $1549 a night! (Airfare included for 2 people up to $2000 total. Trip valid anytime in 2013 or 2014!)

There are many incentives to those who take an active role in supporting our Walk. But perhaps the greatest gift is knowing that you're making an incredible gift to so many animals in need.

Show Us You're a Star

It was a tough challenge: To describe the Barry Crown Walk for the Animals in roughly 30 seconds. We had to do it for a radio promotion.

After all, Walk for the Animals is more than just a one mile walk. There are pet contests, music, food, entertainment, vaccinations, special vendors, animal CPR demonstrations, a celebrity pet wash, and adoptable animals.

It's an action packed half day event that's taking place on March 9th at Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens. The walk is not just a great way to spend your Saturday but also our second largest fundraiser of the year. So it plays a huge role in helping us care for our animals.

Suddenly, 30 seconds doesn't seem very long! Here's what we came up with:

Housebreaking How To

Housebreaking is a question that comes up frequently in our world so we through we'd ask Kristi Jackson, our Senior/Lead Trainer at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League for some advice.

I can hear you groaning now!  There is no shortcut; you have to do the work to make sure your puppy is housebroken.  The key is to always make sure she is within eye sight.  Puppies don’t have control of all their muscles so we have to help them be successful. 

I take a puppy out every 30 minutes.  I also take her out after every meal, after a nap and after playing with her new found friends.  Puppies should also be confined when you can’t watch them so they do not believe your lovely Persian rug is their bathroom.  I use a crate large enough for her to stand up, turn around and lay out flat. 

So…watch your puppy, take her out often and have a party if she potties outside.  If you happen to miss a chance to take her out, startle her if you catch her in the act and take her outside to finish but if you don’t catch her, take a rolled up newspaper and hit yourself on the head for not paying attention.

We Think This Is Exciting

We usually don't talk much about our office furniture but this is a special case.

The picture to the right shows our new Greeter station. It's just arrived and you'll soon see it in the lobby of the Grace Pavilion.

As you know, our Greeter (a volunteer position) is the first person you see when you enter our facility. He or she can talk to you about our services, point you to our adoption areas, as well as serve as a "Smile Ambassador" for our organization.

Our Greeters are good at multitasking and sometimes they'll help our administrative team with things like putting together our event invitations.

We would not be the organization that we are without the help of our greeters. So perhaps you can understand why a new chair and podium gets us so excited.

Minnie and the Microchip

How did a cat from Boynton Beach end up hanging on a guardrail along I-95 in Lake Worth?

Susan Patrona's best guess is that Minnie sneaked into her husband's vehicle and went on a joyride, jumping out at some point.

However the six year old was not having any fun when she was spotted and picked up by a police officer.

Minnie has a microchip but it turns out the contact information was incorrect. Fortunately, we were able to connect with her family through other means and can report a happy reunion for all.

Still this is a great reminder of the importance of microchips and periodically making sure that their contact info is up to date. Remember, if you move, the information will not automatically update. If something was originally entered incorrectly, it will not be automatically fixed.

If you ever lose your pet, you want to have confidence that you've done everything possible to get your furry friend home ASAP.  Keep your animal's microchip number handy and make sure that the contact information is current.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League knows that microchips provide an extra layer of protection. Our shelter offers both microchips and pet ID tags. Visible PetID tags are the best way to get your pet back if they are ever lost.

Microchipping is offered daily between the hours of 10AM and 5PM. No appointment necessary.

The cost to microchip your pet is $15.00. We offer HomeAgain Microchips which are registered with HomeAgain's Pet Recovery System.

What Santa Knows

Getting the perfect holiday picture of your dog or cat can be a challenge. You may want to get yourself in the action too. But somehow, you can never get things just right. Either you or your animals look a little off.

We've got the solution. Come to our Pet Photos with Santa event. It's on December 1st from noon until 4 p.m. at City Place.

We provide the holiday backdrop, the picture, and (most importantly) Santa!

Psst: Did you know that Santa is really good with animals? He's more than just a reindeer expert.

The person behind the camera will be Tom Brodigan of Dogslife Photography. Tom does a great job of capturing the natural qualities of your animal.

Pet Photos with Santa is a fundraiser for Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. For a suggested donation of $10, you will receive your memorable photo though a digital download. So it will be easy for you to forward this keepsake to loved ones, post on social media, or incorporate into your own holiday cards.

The event, which will be hosted by WRMF radio's Jennifer Ross, will also feature some of our adoptable animals.

Great pets, great pictures, and a great holiday memory. Make this year's one you'll never forget!

This Deserves a "Wow!"

Every day our Clinic Staff does a tremendous job of caring for our animals.  As part of the nature of their work, it's mostly unseen by the public.

Today join us as we shine the spotlight on this professional and caring group of people.

On Tuesday, they gave 47 animals vaccinations. On the same day, they performed 53 spay/neuter surgeries. This is an amazing amount of very important work for just one day.

Despite the busy time, every animal received the care and attention he or she needed.

Please join us in saluting this dedicated group as they help improve the lives of so many, one animal at a time.
